Indeed, my mileage does vary. As does that of a few billion other users of
tabbed windows!!!! <g> As I said, the ImageReady document window, and SfW
dialog in Photoshop, have tabs and it works really well. So, introducing
tabs into the browser is not that revolutionary. Users are already used to
them.

Problem with menus is you have to remember what's in them once they are
closed. With a tab, you can see at a glance what's on offer. Without
looking, see how many menu items you can remember from the Layers menu. <g>
Now ask the average user how many items THEY can remember.

As to having 10-15 different views in the File Browser...the number of users
who are likely to want that many different views is probably as high as the
users who use Scripting or use Photoshop to write audio notes!

BTW, I have nine tabs in my palette well and I can read them all...You may
not personally like tabs but that's not really a good enough reason to
eschew them or to argue against having them in the FB.
