Lot's of good informative stuff and :-

it was with all these issues in mind that Thomas and I - along with the
committee of Bob, Mike and Adam (and you were involved yourself I
think?) toiled to try come up with standards photographers could adhere
to and be certified on. That initiative withered on the vine long ago.

Not so much withered as seeded. One of the (MANY !) reasons for ProFile stopping dead in the water was a lack of agreement as to if we should be looking at RGB or CMYK file supply , and if it was to be CMYK , what 'flavour' it should be ( generic , targeted to press , targeted to proofing device , targeted to 'average' p[roofing device etc. All of those on the committee were by their nature and position passionate about 'the cause' and when they disagreed it was with the same intensity :-) . But out of this came much good news.

The original DIG 'Code of Practice' has been used as the foundation for many new initiatives on standardising file supply. Thomas and Neil have gone on to even greater levels with their Colour Management business , as have many other companies, with colour management now getting the respect it deserves. Personally , the 'forced' learning curve bought about by the whole RGB / CMYK debate has been a blessing. It resulted in the purchase of a Specrolino and all the fruit plus many sleepless nights and possible brain damage. As result I've been fortunate enough to have been invited on to several technical committees and as a result been able to put well founded AOP and DIG views to those that can actually make a difference in the industry. And it's provided access to DIG and AOP the information and knowledge on repro that was previously obscure to us smudgers that can be passed on to lists such as these.

ProFile has also been the seed for several new training initiatives that will come to fruition soon.

And at the end of the day it would seem that their is to be a convergence of opinion on CMYK .....the ISO route.

I'd like to write longer here but pressure of work forbids( client has just arrived ) ,so I'll keep it short for now.

BTW , as to Paul Websters original mail , as far as I know he was supplying RGB in accordance to request , and the company making the request purports on their website to be fully colour managed. We talking with Paul; about this , and with his permission will let you know the outcome.

Regards ,

Bob Marchant.
