In the interests of quality control and as a green initiative I wonder whether
we could encourage manufacturers such as Espon to build in certain basic
networking protocols into all their printers.

That way, every time the printer starts printing code garbage all over the print
- or spurts ink all over the inside of the printer (having failed to feed the
paper correctly), a signal could be sent back to the design department and
relevant management section.

Depending on the frequency and severity of the problem electrical shocks varying
from mildly painful to semi lethal could be applied to sensitive areas of the
body of those behind the model of printer in question. I expect the Japanese
would be keen to get involved with this and they could ritualize the feedback
session at the start of each day.

I feel sure that this is a plan which would receive wide support in many offices
and home work situations. The costs of bringing this to market could be easily
covered by selling rights to television world wide and brand loyalty could be
enhanced by bundled webcasts to end users.

Please permit this humble suggestion brief attention

PS - On an international flight I sat next to two designers from Singapore who
were responsible for (I think Canon) printers. They were surprised to hear how
universally hated their kind was. Seems they had never tajken the idea seriously
- that someone should wish to immediately abort a print which was not going well
- - We should drink tea and wait patiently while we contemplate our sinful lives
- they suggested.
