The adjustment layers will work, but you may need to use more than one, and
selectively and softly mask areas of them. Do it with curves, not
levels/colour balance. Set some reference points with the eyedropper in
areas of the paper you're trying to match, then using the info palette,
adjust the curves so the RGB values match up.

Alternatively, stretch the 'good' bit of wall paper to fit the whole area of
the wall and apply a layer mask around any objects you've obscured.
