I was at the big PhotoPlus Expo in New York last week. It was interesting to see all of the camera manufacturer's displays. I've been a Fuji user since the S1 so I was particularly interested in seeing the S3, but Fuji didn't look much like a big-time player compared to the other guys. Canon really, really pulled out all of the stops. Holy cow, they had a veritable theater set up with lots of big-time speakers speaking to huge crowds. I was impressed.
But I'm still going to buy an S3 when it comes out. I'm getting set in my ways. I was hoping that Fuji would have a display with some huge prints of architectural interiors from the S3 and a brand-x camera... with captions saying "notice the beautiful hightlight and shadow detail"... but alas... nothing like that. They had a little studio set up with a model wearing a white fur collared jacket. They would shoot a well exposed picture and point out the detail in the fur... then they would begin shooting it a half-stop overexposed... then a full stop overexposed... then a stop and a half.... they had to go to 2 stops overexposed before they lost the highlight detail. Pretty impressive demo.
