<Surely I will be deprived from mastering my hobby if I
am locked out of this list.>

Seems that's just what has been discussed in this thread......

I've been silent due to the fact that I've been a digest subscriber this
last year and a half and the discussion has often moved on by the time I
read it, but today I changed it to individual postings. Why? I guess because
I'm sick of reading about the 'race to the bottom' and 'just good enough'.
This thread has been one of the most readable and longest running in a long
while and there have been a good many points expressed.
>From my own perspective, I spent twenty years selling specialist cars before
making a living from photography. Now, 60% is editorial work.
However, in complete contrast to this business, the motor trade is
obsessively secretive, to the point of spreading mis-information. I would
never be able to share information in the ways that other professionals do
here and indeed it took me a while to come to terms with help so freely
given.

However, I fully understand that for talented individuals like Neil Barstow,
Shangara Singh and Rod Wynne-Powell, they tread a fine line between
showcasing their services and working for free. I fully understand the
reasons why people might decide to stop participating in threads to the loss
of the majority and I respect that. That's the reason why there needs to be
some moderation of members. This list is on my top three resources, together
with Stock Artists Alliance and EPUK, both of which require professional
status proof. This means that issues can be discussed without fear of
passing nuggets on to the 'just good enough' brigade.

Jut my 2p. And I promise to lurk less in future.
