I am one who joined the list for the purpose of learning (so I am
what some derisively call a "lurker"). At present, I don't have the
knowledge or experience to answer anyone's digital questions. My
background in this general area is split between 20 years of magazine
publishing and 15 years of photography.
The only thing I can say to anyone at this stage of my learning is
that publishing and photography have gotten extraordinarily more
complex, time-consuming, and costly for little or no practical
benefit to the end users (readers of publications and viewers of
photographs). The complexity of things and the ever-changing software
is surrealistic.
At times it seems like we have become addicted digital sheep
following an endless stream of vendors who produce time-, labor-, and
money-saving products that unfortunately don't work, but "surely"
will be fixed in the next version or so...probably....or maybe
someone will devise a workaround that won't necessitate the
unpleasantness of a vendor having to refund our money because their
product was defective.
If it will make the elitists on the list happy, I will stop being a
"lurker" and contribute something along this line every so often to
help call attention to the absurdity of the current situation.
To those experts who generously and patiently answer the questions of
those struggling in this difficult environment, I tip my hat and say
a heartfelt thank you.
