Walter was one of the original Leica employees and photographers. Many pieces of Leica equipment accessories were designed for him or by him. In later years he founded the Zefa stock agency and travelled extensively around the world.
Unlike many photographers he got involved in his subjects. After a shooting trip to Poland, before the wall came down, he filled a large van with food and drug parcels and returned on a delivery trip round all the people who had helped him. I think he did this often.
He also knew just about everyone notable who used a Leica.
This makes me think that at some future time photographers will be differentiated by whether their career was entirely in film, digital or both.

Can you reduce my ignorance and explain who Walter Benser is?
