I have am trying to batch rename some 1ds2 files in CS on a Mac.

This is something that has always puzzled me. Why rename?
Every file shot has a unique number that can be found by typing apple F (on a mac). Why add another element to what can already be a busy and rushed workflow, when keeping things simple, by not doing anything to the files, is so simple?
Because you can add a year number and a client ID and a job ID. Helps the client as much as me. I do not want a million DSCxxxx files.
