Hey there add-on product authors!

Plone 4 final has been tagged, and it's looking great! Thanks to all
of you who put so much fantastic work into it!

We've seen over 81 add-products already make Plone 4-compatible
releases on plone.org -- that's more "ready-at-launch" products than
we've ever had for a Plone release! Thanks to all of you who jumped
on the train early! But if you're one of those product authors who's
been a little slower on the draw, now is the time to get cracking!

The good news is that updating your product for Plone 4 is really
easy, and it's extremely well-documented. You can find everything you
need to know at:

http://plone.org/documentation/manual/upgrade-guide/version/upgrading-plone-3-x-to-4.0/updating-add-on-products-for-plone-4.0

A couple of tips:

-- Please be sure to use jarn.mkrelease (or your favorite alternative
egg releasing utility) to push releases BOTH to pypi and to plone.org
(which is now a pypi server!) for maximum visibility to the broader
Plone community.

-- Take a few moments to validate that all of your page templates are
valid XHTML. This will help ensure that your add-on product is
compatible with Chameleon, the alternative template-rendering engine,
which can speed up Plone 4 by an additional 30-50%. (Chameleon's not
part of Plone 4, but the sooner a critical mass of add-on products
work with it, the sooner we can all start using it!) xmllint can help
you validate XHTML, much as pylint and jslint help you catch those
little Python and Javascript gremlins.

If you have questions or run into problems, this list is a great place
to ask for help!

And, if you're a newer member of the Plone community, a great way to
pitch in and make your first contributions is to tackle Plone 4
compatibility for an add-on product that you use and love! Drop an
email to the maintainer or just cut a branch in the Collective and
start working!

best,
jon
