I'm looking for recommendations for an online backup service -
preferably based on your personal experience with the service.

I'm currently using two online backup services that are relatively close
to another. I'm hoping to spread my risk by finding another online
backup (or hosting) service whose location is not in California (and
preferably not near major earthquake faults, active volcanos, etc)

Here's who I'm using now:

1. LunarPages.com (FTP backup folder on our hosted site)

LunarPages is our website hosting vendor; we use a significant portion
of our 8G of storage space for online backups. Downside is that data
must be transfered via FTP (non-secure) and max file size is (in
practice) 30M or so.

2. Strongspace.com

StrongSpace *requires* an SFTP interface. There are no file size
limitations but I've found that file transfer speeds are much slower
than what we get with LunarPages FTP accounts.

Comments:

Both of these services have been reliable, with LunarPages being
exceptionally reliable. StrongSpace is hosted by the same people that
host Textdrive. Textdrive is a "cool place to be seen", but my hosting
experience there was a TOTAL DIASTER so I've always been a bit nervous
about their StrongSpace service ... but so far, so good.

We use webdrive (webdrive.com) to map FTP and SFTP to virtual drives on
these services and then use batch files and WSH scripts (and a few VFP
scripts) to move data to these sites. Note: Neither of these services
supports WebDAV.

Alternatives I've looked at:

1. Ibackup - a decent alternative to Xdrive and high on my list to look
at. I used an earlier version of this service for a client project and
was impressed by the service, but scared of the pricing. Ibackup's
pricing is now very competitive.

2. Xdrive (the original online backup service) is now owned by AOL, has
a *FREE* 5G plan (if you have an AOL screen name), and has its own
virtual drive mapping software. The problem is that this service has
such a @#*([EMAIL PROTECTED] poor trackrecord, that I've stayed away from it
after
being burned a few times.

3. Textdrive (the StrongSpace people) have annouced their new
www.bingodisk.com service - $200/year for 100G online storage. All
access is via WebDAV. There are no monthly plans - you have to make a
year commitment. Sounds great, but Textdrive's hosting track record is
just so scary ... AND ... just tried to visit bingodisk.com and its
DOWN. Another limitation of this service is a max of 10G
bandwidth/month.

Anyone else have some experiences/recommendations to share?

Malcolm
