Am I in the minority who thinks that there are still places for smart/rich/fat clients instead of browser based apps?
Yes. But being in the minority is not such a bad thing. The majority drinks Bud. I've developed in-house intranet web-based apps for clients and they are delighted with what they can get out of them. But I still can't (and don't want to) wean other clients off rich-client apps that have grids and pivot tables, easy to comprehend multiple windows, report writers, PDF generation, email integration, etc. Sovereign rich-client apps still rock. That said, a lot of people's needs can be met with rich web apps. However, I'm not satisfied that the state of the art has yet been reached for the Javascript/DHTML/XMLRequest stuff that's running around as "AJAX" right now. JavaScript appears to be a language with serious security issues, and I am not comfortable basing a client's business on technology that shaky. -- Ted Roche Ted Roche & Associates, LLC http://www.tedroche.com _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
