sry, you are correct. It does have a sd slot near the sim card. I have an 8gb sd card there (The Samsung does not come with it - I moved it from my old S2). But as you say, you cannot easily get to that card. You must remove the back of the phone and the battery. Not very good. Also it only accepts the micro sd card. Best to get the usb adapter. They you are free to use almost any external type storage.

It does accommodate a SD card, I have a 64 gb card on my Note 2:

However, it does not have a "slot" where you can mount and unmount SDs at
