it may well take a little time to actually see the share on the network
when the MAC initially connects to the physical network so be patient.
Yeah, it takes a tremendous amount of time, and I tried to use the terminal
to connect to it:
\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
And it wouldn't work. It did eventually show up in the user's Network list.
But I have a new problem.
User has a domain login and password, which can be used to access internal
email on the domain. Since the email works, I know the login and password
are correct. But the user can only connect to the share as "Guest"; the Mac
won't accept a login using the domain login and password.
The fact that "Guest" works is deeply disturbing, since I assume it means
that anybody who has wireless access to our network (for purposes of
getting internet access) could do this.
The user can only get to this folder on the server (other shares on the
same server that are set up for access only by specific users are not
available to him) presumably because this folder is shared to "all users".
I didn't set this up; I assumed this would mean "all domain users". On the
CentOS Webmin for the server, "Guest access" is "None".
So now I need to understand:
1. Why a domain user can't use the domain account to connect from the Mac
to the share?
2. How do I make sure that people with a physical connection to the network
via wire or wireless can't get into that share as "Guest", while not having
to explicitly add all 90+ members of the domain into the access list?
Thanks.
Ken
