You should really check out Ubuntu. I just fired up the package manager, and entered 'wmv' in the search box. Among the 16 packages were two full media players that support wmv, among other codecs. Installation is a matter of clicking on a checkbox to mark it for installation, and clicking the big 'Apply' button.
