"My friend" said he thought at first the digest was convenient because he
would have them in one place so he could check them all at one time when he
had time. 

But "he" also said he was considering switching because he felt like he was
always coming to a conversation after the fact, kinda like watching DVR'd
copies of season finale shows after the new TV season starts. 

As you can tell, "my friend" is very creative with his metaphors, mixed or
otherwise.
