I honestly find that hard to believe that the machines didn't have
some serious problems in the first place. Installing the framework
itself without using it should have very limited if any effect on the
general stability of the system. I've installed the .NET frameworks
100's of times on many dozens of machines with absolutely no
discernable ill effects(unless you count the extra download time, but
it's a walk-away process to me). The .NET framework is also installed
on, I dare say, millions of computers world-wide. I'm guessing the
install is probably one of the most solid out there and there must
have been something unique about your machine's installs-- maybe some
poorly written anti-virus/anti-spyware software sticking it's nose in
where it doesn't belong...........
