I had a DLink router and didn't like it very well. I then switched to Linksys and have had good luck with them for the couple of years I have used them. I am also using a Buffalo as a bridge to bring wired connection to a few network devices and computers such as my desktop, laptop, and a network laser printer. Buffalo seems to be doing an excellent job as well. I would definitely recommend both. As mentioned, what works for one person may not work for others.
