        You don't need a license to run wiring in your own house. You do  
need to get permits, since someone else may own your house some day,  
and  this helps to make sure it is up to code, but you can certainly  
DIY. Same goes for carpentry, plumbing, etc.

        If you want to hire yourself out as an electrician or plumber,  
though, you're going to need a license.
