Below is a link to an article that indicates it would not be wise to buy
a high definition DVD player for a PCs right now.

Thanks for the tip about Sony's Playstation 3, which is one
alternative. I don't play computer games, but I suppose I could hook up
a Playstation 3 to a standard HDTV in the living room.

Given the problems with high definition DVD players on desktop
computers, I also like your suggestion about buying a standard high
definition DVD player. This would allow me more options like recording
TV content to a DVD, etc. Also, I will probably go with Direct TV via
satellite dish for the digital delivery system and buy standard HDTV,
rather than buying a HDTV monitor for my desktop computer. I hate the
though of paying $40.00 per month for Direct TV though, because; I watch
very little TV. About 80% of my TV time is spent watching the local
12:00 o'clock news, the evening local and national news, and the Sunday
Political talk shows, but I do enjoy a good movie from time to time.

If it's not too expensive, I will run connections off the satellite
dish to the living room, bedroom and office. With Direct TV I could
buy movies to watch right off the Direct TV menu, rather than going down
to Hastings to rent a movie, and then needing to return it within the
week. This would allow me to wait until the HD-DVD and Blue-Ray DVD
format war have been settled before buying a regular high definition DVD
player. Below is a link to some HD/Blue-Ray DVD player reviews, if
anyone is interested.

I also may wait until February 17, 2009 to see what happens to my
current TVs, before taking any action. I would rather wait until my
current TVs needed major repairs or completely quit due to loss of an
analog signal via antenna, before going to HDTVvia a digital Direct TV
signal.
