Nah. Based on my experience with the democratic party, they do not believe
in the rule "of the people" - so, generally, I don't consider Ds to be
"democratic" (which I realize is pretty harsh, and why I was surprised to
find "evidence" in regards to superdelegates). My assertion about D claims
of democracy-superiority comes from people I personally know who always
vote democrat, and continually tell me their party is pro-normal people,
and Republicans are pro-elitist groups. That's a generalization of course,
but it seems to be the common thinking of the Ds I know that don't track
politics very close.

Historical derivation? Are you alluding to something specific in the
history of the D party? Did they get their origins in Facism or Communism
or something like that?

Ah. Probably "designated" is a better term than "elected". In other words
the delegate's vote is supposed to reflect the poll results (based on the
rules of the state - e.g. proportional or winner-take-all).

And yep, just like the electoral college, actual delegate votes in the end
could be anything.
