Nah. Based on my experience with the democratic party, they do not believe in the rule "of the people" - so, generally, I don't consider Ds to be "democratic" (which I realize is pretty harsh, and why I was surprised to find "evidence" in regards to superdelegates). My assertion about D claims of democracy-superiority comes from people I personally know who always vote democrat, and continually tell me their party is pro-normal people, and Republicans are pro-elitist groups. That's a generalization of course, but it seems to be the common thinking of the Ds I know that don't track politics very close. Historical derivation? Are you alluding to something specific in the history of the D party? Did they get their origins in Facism or Communism or something like that? > > set up this kind of "elitist group" in determining who gets the > party's nomination. > > That is, a group that isn't chosen by the people to determine who they > want > > to be president. > > That's kinda funny, since you don't get to choose your delegates in >any case. The party selects delegates for each candidate. You vote for >the candidate, but what you get is the party-selected delegate. That ... Ah. Probably "designated" is a better term than "elected". In other words the delegate's vote is supposed to reflect the poll results (based on the rules of the state - e.g. proportional or winner-take-all). And yep, just like the electoral college, actual delegate votes in the end could be anything. -Charlie _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[EMAIL PROTECTED] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
