Helio,

Just purchased a Dell Vostros (w/XP Home) for my wife. US cost was $629
w/2G RAM, 160G drive, DVD-RW, built-in 2M videocam, and free shipping.

The unit looks like a tank. Big, bulky and solid. Very plain looking -
no shiny surfaces or flashy LED status indicators. Simple keyboard.
Battery sticks out the rear, but Dell claims 7.5 hour battery life.
Screen looks decent.

I wouldn't want to haul this laptop all over the place, but it seems
like a very good value for the money. So far I'm pleased with out
purchase.

BTW: One of the biggest reasons I chose Dell for this purchase was the
option for XP vs. Vista.

Let us know what laptop you decide to go with.

Malcolm
