Pete,
The 10% rate is up to a low fixed amount of total salary (£2.5K), after that
you pay the standard 20% rate up to the top threshold (£36K) whereafter you
pay another higher rate of 40%.

What you have to realize though in the UK is that you also have an
additional 15% National Insurance tax on top of all this which is just a
stealth tax added but not shown in the standard rate. So don’t think we
aren't paying a lot of tax over here. The average house price here in the UK
is now above £320K for a small 2 bedroomed property and they take what is
called Stamp Duty (another tax) off you when you buy anything. The amounts
are 1% between to £125K and £250K and a massive 3% above £250K and then 4%
above £500K.

We are without doubt THE most taxed country I know of especially when you
consider that petrol has now passed the $11 (dollars) a gallon barrier and
sales tax on everything is 17.5% - and it has been like this for years.

Stop whining because you are paying, what $3.50 (I guess) for a gallon? You
guys have it easy.

Unfortunately us poor b*stards over here are now in the situation that we
are paying for all the bad sub-prime lending that your financial
institutions have made despite it not being our fault. Mortgages are up at
about 7.5% and rising - if you can find anyone to lend you the money, so
stop bleating, you don’t know how "untaxed" you really are. Welcome to the
real world which, I might add, your government continue to screw up and
expect everyone else to pick up the tab for.

Still, we can all have cheap holidays in the USA once our houses get
repossessed.

Perhaps you should send all your fat b*stards over here to live for a while
as they would soon loose weight by being unable to afford to buy food. Then
again maybe not - we might sink.

Subject: [OT] Whining over 10p tax rate?

Hi Everybody!

WTF? In the states where there are taxes on everything but your p*nis,
perhaps
even that, we pay a minimum of 30%, usually much more. Maybe the 10p tax
rate
means something other than 10%?
