Quite a headache. The only other thing I can share with you is that I started using the SpeedUpMyPC from a company named Uniblue. They might have a standalone version. I use their "PowerSuite" set of three utilities which were all recently made Windows 7 compatible, but all their utilities were compatible with prior Window$ OSs.
