It is a fox-thing that goes back a ways.   Dan Freeman was a frequent
speaker at DevCons and such, active on Compuserve, etc...
  
He was famous for reformatting and rebuilding his system every other month
or so, and referred to "format C:" as "Freeman C:" as he did it so often.
