        IMO, there is a broad range on the criticism spectrum. "Bashing" is 
criticizing without backing it up with substance. When you explain your 
criticism with reasoning, even if others might disagree with those reasons, it 
is not "bashing".

        However, the thought behind Godwin's Law is that once someone starts 
invoking Hitler or other Nazi comparisons, they have gone so far off of the 
criticism spectrum that there is no point in continuing the discussion. Why try 
to have intelligent discussion with someone who can't distinguish between, say, 
over-controlled business policies and the extermination of millions of human 
beings?
