Hmm... Thanks for that, Paul. I'll do a bit more research. I'm in a very suburban residential environment and not all that concerned about the local teens war driving through the neighborhood using packet sniffing software to grab my SSID. Anyone doing that is also probably clever enough to have some brute force hack for getting past WPA2 encryption, which while more robust than WEP isn't exactly unbreakable. OTOH, I'm paranoid enough to not let the neighbors poach my bandwidth either. <g>

This is all I can find: http://www.wikihow.com/Secure-Your-Wireless-Home-Network 6. Don't disable the 'SSID Broadcast'. Do not disable the 'SSID Broadcast' feature of your Access Point or router. This seems counter-intuitive, but it is actually a bad idea.[3] Although this would make your network invisible to your neighbors, any determined hacker can still sniff out your SSID; and you are implicitly forcing your computer to shout out your SSID anywhere you are, while it is trying to connect to it. Anyone could then impersonate your router with that SSID, and get your credentials that way. -- Paul _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: ProFox@leafe.com Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/DF1EEF11E586A64FB54A97F22A8BD0441923ED59A6@ACKBWDDQH1.artfact.local ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
