I believe that the general problem with menus is semantics. In many
disciplines, common words have been re-purposed and given new meanings,
which makes menus or documentation very difficult to use for a newbie.

For that matter, one of the biggest problems with J help is semantics. J
has re-purposed English parts-of-speech words (noun, verb, adverb, etc.)
for specific concepts in J, which makes finding things using search in the
J docs typically unhelpful. It is particularly difficult to find
information on standard programming concepts such as variables or
constants, since those concepts have been re-named in J.
