Well, sometimes one need to balance extreme opinions with pragmatism :-)
Nothing prevents for an open client to become better and having a smaller
barrier than Hangout (OK I guess Hangout being so integrated - a la IE6 - is
sort of a barrier in this sense, but in the end you have seen that even if
Firefox/Mozilla was not coming out-of-the-box on Win machine it won the
browser battle, simply because it was better). In this very moment there are
plenty of features that makes Hangout better (of course these are just
opinions), and therefore in the evolutionary schema it has its advantages.

Well my geeky "religion" is with KDE, and there, the Jabber integration was
horrible :-( and there it goes (and that explains also why at some point,
after certain upgrades, I was no longer in the chatroom). Besides, some years
ago I was daily recompiling my OS (with Gentoo) :-) but now, when I quit work,
I rarely find the time to sit at the computer again. Kids/toddlers are keeping
me way too busy! :-)

Cheers!
        Sam
