Well actually I had tried that already. This is the results from the boot
sequence following a reboot with the module commented out:

SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2
PCI: Enabling device 00:0c.0 (0000 -> 0003)
PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 00:0c.0
PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with 00:14.2
scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.2.8
        <Adaptec 2940 Ultra SCSI adapter>
        aic7880: Ultra Single Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 16/253 SCBs

I haven't tried actually rmmod after the system has booted yet.
That might do the trick. Hopefully I can give it a try tonight.

Thanks,
Jim
