There should be a free version of Eleven that came with PT, from memory with 9 it was installed by default. Definitely worth a tinker, sounded great to my ears when I last used it to re-amp some weak guitar tracks. Also, it's not appropriate for every genre, but the Sansamp PSA-1 plugin is great for distortions and crunches. No fx in there, but it's worth investigating unless you never need to use a software amp sim. Both of those expose their parameters tidily in the plugins window, so no need for a control surface to get a decent workflow going.
