Hi Michael,

Yep, once you consolidate, you've created a new file which replaces the old one
in the timeline but it still exists in the session. well, you're in a pickle
now and this will be a lesson for the future. First, I'll explain the lesson
and offer a possible solution.

Whenever you're preparing to edit a track, create a duplicate of the track with
the playlist pop-up menu. You can edit either the original or the duplicate,
it's up to you but definitely work on a playlist that has a copy of it beneath.
If you ever find yourself in a situation as you have now, all you need to do is
to go to the other playlist and copy what you need and paste it into the
playlist you're editing.

A sighted user can drag the original clip from the playlist into the time line.
I'm not sure why your wife can't seem to accomplish the task but here's an
alternative:
Hide your tracks and go to the Clips list. Select the original clip and export
it as a new file and name it something unique so there's no question what it is.
Use "Import Audio to Track" from the file menu or Command-Shift-i. Navigate to
the exported region and press Return then hit the Done button. In the
subsequent dialog, press command-t or make sure the first radio button is
selected and press return. A new track will come up with the clip at the
beginning of the track. Your additional options, should you choose to be so
brave, are to import to the original time stamp so the clip will appear in the
correct place in the time line. You'll see a pop-up menu in the previously
mentioned dialog where you can select "Spot" which will open a new dialog with
various options for where to import the region within the timeline.

Hope that helps,

Slau
