Hi Gordon I believe if you took your laptop in and have it rolled back to 
Mavericks or Yosemite your problem would be solved. If there is an issue that 
you need the newer update I understand but it may be cheaper and I know there 
is no learning curve there. I use my Presonus studio live for my console. It 
will not support El Capitan as well. I just bought a control surface and mackie 
MCU pro may not support it as well. I have heard that it did run with El 
Capitan.
I am not going to take that chance. But all those surface issues you mentioned 
could be solved by abandoning El Capitan.
