This is taken from the new features in the 1.12 firmware
Added a manual shut down function in case if you experience
difficulty with the ON/OFF power switch and the OFF function is not working
properly. In that
case, please slide the power switch to OFF position, press and hold the
information key for 10 seconds for manually force shut down.

Subject: Can't turn off the PTR1
Hi all,
How can I force a shutdown? For some reason my PTR1 has freaked out and I
can't seem to turn it off. It is stuck right in the middle of executing a
command. That is, the waiting tone is on and I can't seem to turn off the
machine. I've tried holding down the shut down button for a few seconds
until the machine turned itself off like one would do on a PC, but nothing
happens because I can still hear the waiting tone. If I press any of the
buttons I hear: "Please wait." Any ideas are surely appreciated as for now I
guess I'm waiting for the battery to run out.
PS: this problem started when I pressed and held down the play key to get
feedback on the time remaining on the daisy book I was reading. This problem
has happened before when using the play key in this manner. I can't remember
how I fixed it.
