Andrew, I've not asked them to try the USB connection idea so will give this a go.
There is absolutely no speech at any stage of the unit being turned on or used. We have tried to disconnect the battery and re-install it with no difference. The battery is definitely OK as it has been tried in a second PTR1 and works normally. Do you know if there is a reset command that might be worth trying before sending it back to RNIB? Thanks in advance, Jamie -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Hodgson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 01 October 2004 11:37 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: PTR1 not responding Hi, Does the unit work on USB? I mean, does it appear as an external CDR drive? Do you get any speech when you press the volume keys - your orig. message was unclear. Have you tried disconnecting battery and then reconnecting it after a short period? It sounds like the firmware in the unit maybe damaged, at this point it is probably best to either see if anyone in RNIB can fix it or return it to Plextor for you.
