Hi,
Yes, the manual can be opened from Wordpad that is the text version and also
the .doc file as well.
You cannot use the sleep timer when recording.
But you can set the time to stop recording without sound to either off, 30
seconds, 1,  2, 3, 4, or 5 minutes.
