Thanks a lot for the information and clarification. It looks like we can
do one or more of the following:
1. To re-submit the HCLS abstract, which was submitted the ISMB highight
track but got rejected, to the BioOnt Workshop at ISMB. Our original
goal was to have someone give an oral presentation and demo if our
abstract got accepted into the highlight track (our hope was to attract
a larger bio-audience crowd), but it's fine with me if the group agrees
to give a poster presentation at the BioOnt Workshop. The only thing is
that I won't be able to go to ISMB this year so someone else
(author/co-author(s) of the HCLS paper) would need to prepare and
present the poster if the abstract is to be submitted and accepted.
2. To submit a new abstract to the Society for Neuroscience for possible
poster presentation or oral presentation (including a demo?) to the
neuroscience audience. However, the deadline is very close ...
3. To submit a paper to a journal (regular or special issue) such as BMC
Bioinformatics, Journal of Biomedical Informatics, Nature Biotechnology,
....

Note that Society for Neuroscience abstracts are not published in a journal.
The main value as I see it is to get the demo in front of the intended end
users (neuroscientists). There are about 35,000 that attend the meeting.

I have also seen community papers published in high-profile journals
such as Nature and Science. It depends on the quality of the work, but
it also depends on people's interest, commitment, availability ...
The first HCLS paper (which will be published in BMC Bioinformatics
soon) talks about SW visions and use cases in the area of translational
medicine. A new paper paper (if we decide to write one) might focus on
the SW implementation of these visions and use cases. We have more
results now ...

How much time would we have left to write such a community paper? The
original deadline for submissions is May 1 (today).
If some of us should decide to write such a community paper, I would
volunteer to coordinate the collaborative writing via Google Docs. Many of
us
already have some practice in using this system, and I guess it would now
work better than the last time.
