Issue #3461 has been updated by Nigel Kersten.
I'd argue the other platforms are Doing It Wrong™ then :) I don't want to end up getting Debian bugs reported to me that I have to pick apart and realize someone has done a half-assed job of a source install and then installed packages over it with unpredictable results.... If you want, change this bug around to "provide build instructions for debian packages" or something and I'll submit a README. why are you doing a source install anyway? Just because you didn't realize we had the whole git-buildpackage setup in Debian land for puppet/facter ? I'd kind of argue too that if you're trying out source, you should know what you're doing, and if so, you should be more than comfortable pulling out init scripts from the existing debs :) ---------------------------------------- Bug #3461: Debian init scripts not packaged in ext along with others http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/3461 Author: Michael DeHaan Status: Needs design decision Priority: Low Assigned to: Nigel Kersten Category: installation Target version: Affected version: 0.25.4 Keywords: Branch: When installing from source, I'd like it if setup.rb installed init scripts for me, possibly as an option, or otherwise they were at least there for me to copy. SuSE, RedHat, gentoo, etc all seem to be in tree, but there are no Debian examples. This makes a source install a little more difficult on that platform as I have to furnish my own init scripts.
