The Pyramid book is a reference manual so it contains all the details. More Pylons-specific guides will be coming but they're not written yet. That's why the project is still in alpha. The benefits in short are more flexibility and unifying some API paradigms that have sprouted up in different frameworks since WSGI was invented. Ben can explain it better than I can, just be patient. :) And Pylons 1 is not going away.
