The current Debian "stable" branch (4.0r3, "etch", released 2008-02-17) has the 'python' package installing Python 2.4.4. <URL:ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/stable/main/source/Sources.gz> The current Debian "testing" branch ("lenny", the next in line for release) has the 'python' package installing Python 2.4.5.
