Right. Internally all stuff is done with lon/lat WGS84. Just at the outside you can convert the coords to anything you like. If we wouldn't do it like that it would be building the Tower of Babel.
Without doubt Transversal Mercator projections like the OSGB have their charm because you can calculate distances easily with a pocket calculator. On the other hand side, you can do that with a GPS devices, too. Thus I accustomed myself to the usual degree notation. -------- Original-Nachricht -------- > Datum: Fri, 02 Nov 2012 14:28:13 +0000 > Von: Adam Funk <[email protected]> > An: [email protected] > Betreff: Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Ordnance Survey grid references? > On 2012-10-19, Andre Joost wrote: > > > Am 19.10.2012 15:38, schrieb Oliver Eichler: > >> Every > >> country has it's own idea of how coordinates have to look like and > >> what projection system / datum is used. > > > > To be honest, its not a question of "idea", but the best try to put a > > cartesian grid for surveying on the earths surface, which is not a ball, > > not even a perfect ellipsoid. > > And that was invented over a hundred years ago, when noone even thought > > of satellite photography, GPS and world wide google maps. > > I've noticed that the wpt (waypoint) elements in the GPX files created > by QLandkarteGT and by my GPS just have lat and lon attributes with > decimal degree values; there doesn't appear to be any specification of > the datum/projection.
