Having finally received the mail back from the mailing list. I think I
better clarify something.
I was referring to the top statement of Hennings mail listed underneath.

Not this one one about a bug in extfs.
Obviously if you don`t sync then in an extreme condition you can lose
data. It`s obviously not a bug but a default option. You can force
ext2fs to sync, but it will be slower...big surprise.
Just wanted to clarify what I was talking about.
