I trust you on the clean source of OpenBSD, that's one of their primary
goals, however it doesn't make their OS better. In fact in computing,
there's usually no such thing as "better" or "the best". Like the saying
goes, "Good, cheap, fast, pick any two". Also, it's not a one-fits-all solution.
The world doesn't run on one particular operating system.
Linux does have many advantages over *BSDs, and so do *BSDs over Linux.

Also it's not a bug in ext2fs. Linux kernel's semantics allow for
syncing data and metadata separately. Just because *BSDs original design
says sync of directory also flushes data, doesn't mean the world should
run that way. 'Nuff said. Not everything that came out of BSD world is
great, just take a look at all the breaches .rhosts have caused in the
past.
