Well, have you tried djbdns?

And I'm kinda lazy right now, so I'm not going to re-read your post, but
have you tried using 'dig' to see what the sizes of the packets you're
receiving are?

I find mine to be at 501 bytes, 477 bytes and other sizes. If I use
djbdns, I get 141 bytes.

Though, really, I don't think it's a problem with DNS... My DNS record is
1220 bytes via Bind.

slepp@gluttony:~$ dnsq any geeksanon.ca 209.115.155.250
255 geeksanon.ca:
1220 bytes, 1+22+6+11 records, response, authoritative, weird ra, noerror
query: 255 geeksanon.ca

And, you managed to e-mail me just fine.

microsoft.com is:

slepp@gluttony:~$ dnsq any microsoft.com 209.115.155.250
255 microsoft.com:
501 bytes, 1+12+12+3 records, response, weird ra, noerror
query: 255 microsoft.com

You could be experiencing the standard sporadicly broken MS DNS server
problem. :>
