According to <http://cr.yp.to/proto/mailloops.txt>, DJB acknowledges
that <#@[]> is an illegal envelope sender address.  So Exchange is
not incorrect in rejecting the double-bounce mail -- it's just rather
inconvenient in your case.

It would be nice to know the actual rationale behind this arrangement,
but my personal guess is that a double-bounce envelope sender was needed
that [a] can be distinguished from a bounce, but [b] cannot inadvertantly
cause a mail loop.
