Greetings, I have qmail 1.03 installed according to lwq. Using vpopmail 5.2.1. I'm using Solaris 9 on a Sun Enterprise 420 with 4 UtlraSPARC II's, 1 GB of RAM, a Mylex fc card and an EMC for storage. I installed qmail-scanner 1.16 and am launching it via /service/qmail-stmpd/run as per the instructions in the INSTALL file. I also have clamscan 0.54 and Spam Assassin 2.43. I have been using the application postal-0.64 to get rough performance specs. I set postal to create 29 connections at a time and send a message averaging 10k in size. I get the following results:
without qmailscanner: approximately 6,000 messages per minute with only qmailscanner: approximately 430 messages per minute with qmailscanner and clamscan: approximately 150 messages per minute with qmailscanner, clamscan and spamass: approximately 100 messages per minute My questions are: 1. is this the average amount of performance hit I should expect, or do I need to look more closely at my configuration? and 2. if this is a typical experience, how are any users with large servers handling virus scanning? I searched the list archive and didn't find much in the way of comparison, so I am asking the list. Thank you in advance for any constructive input. -- John Rowan Unix Systems Administrator Project Manager The Planet Internet Services, Inc. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by:Crypto Challenge is now open!
