I had the same thingie some days ago and I discovered that my license year was over ... though look up for that first :-)

nothing is being written to kavscan.rpt
kavscanner runs fine, kavdaemon is also running fine, i can su to qmailq and scan it fine (it gives a little hickup about not being able to scan /dev/hda2, but scans the mail just fine.
It gives the error both with files attached, and without files attached.
(i googled for it, but there were only a couple of pages on it, and no sollutions)
