Last I heard HotMail was creating a totally custom back-end, derived from, 
I believe, qmail.  I have a friend who works in the hotmail department, but 
I haven't talked to him lately.  I'll send him a friendly request for info 
(to satisfy our burning curiosity) and pass the info on to the list...
