You've obviously never worked in retail. I'm of the mind that kindness is never inappropriate. I also think that the cursing and name-calling is inappropriate too. If you don't want to answer the man's question, then don't. But don't answer it negatively. Be polite. It goes a long way. And another thing, I'm 21. Age isn't always the problem.
