I also ran the qtp-newmodel upgrade using qtp-menu on my production server and it worked like a charm.

I just did it last night no problems.

Actually with the new qtp-newmodel upgrade is about as safe as any upgrade can be.  It creates a sandbox and compiles everything in it so that your mail servers stay up until everything is compile, then it just copies over the files and restarts the services.
